24 Hours in Sedona

Why did I take a five and a half hour flight to Phoenix and drive two hours out to Sedona, just to have about 24 hours on the ground? I was reminded with some heartbreaking news when I returned home.

The next day I went back to work and found out that an absolutely beautiful person, adored by everyone in our company, had passed away. She suffered a cardiac arrest, and after being in the ICU for several days, her family had to pull the plug. She was healthy and only in her 40’s. A couple hours earlier, I had received a text about my cousin getting into a bad car accident and was in the hospital. The car was completely totaled, and although he was found unconscious and taken to the hospital for bleeding in the brain, he survived and only needed a few stitches on his head. From the looks of the car, if he had hit the tree on his side, I don’t think he would have made it.

And that’s life. Completely unpredictable. The outcome of both cases could have been reversed. It may sound cliché, but every day we’re alive and healthy is a blessing. Don’t take them for granted, because the universe does not often give warnings on last calls. Always be kind, give when you can, love fiercely, and take the trips.

Two hikes, experienced the vortex, visited two sacred grounds, and still found time for some foolishness.
